Zambia
Sugar Plc., a large agro-industry which is part of Illovo Sugar Ltd, is the
leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of
sugarcane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream
products. The Company has a permanent employee base of 1 700 employees and
offers medical, educational, sport, recreation and other social
facilities on the Estate in Mazabuka.
The
recently expanded Nakambala Sugar Mill area comprises approximately 28 000
hectares of irrigated sugarcane. An approximately 17 000 hectares of the
planted area is owned by Zambia Sugar Plc.; and the balance of 11 000 hectares
is owned by fourteen commercial Growers and three small-scale grower
entities whose affairs are managed by the Estimated Recoverable Crystals (ERC)
Committee comprising membership from Zambia Sugar Plc. and the Growers.
The
Company now invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the
following position;
AGRICULTURE
ENGINEERING MANAGER FIXED TERM
Reporting
to the Engineer- Irrigation & Operations Services, the Agriculture
Engineering Manager will perform the following responsibilities:
§
To
manage the Irrigation Workshop, Electrical Engineering team and Mechanical
Engineering team and implement strategic operational and maintenance plans for
all mechanical and electrical Irrigation equipment
§
To
introduce and implement an effective and proactive maintenance management plan
of all irrigation works on the estate including pumps, motors, MC C’s,
pipelines, control gates. valves and centre pivots
§
To
manage and plan the irrigation infrastructure maintenance in conjunction with
irrigation operations to ensure that irrigation water demand is continuously
met throughout the season with a controllable Lost Time Available (LTA) of less
than 5%
§
To
prepare and imple ment maintenance budget for all irrigation maintenance works
and ensure that expenditure is within budget and on time
§
Ensuring
that regular preventative maintenance inspections are planned and completed on
schedule throughout the year
§
Planning
for and ensuring that electrical, lubrication and mechanical checks are
delivered to schedule in accordance with the Original Equipment Manufacturer
Specification and Agriculture maintenance metric
§
Coordinate
condition based monitoring to ensure pumping units remain operational within
their design specification
§
Ensure
operational budgets is controlled to within 5% of budget
§
Ensure
CAPEX is utilized as per plan
§
To
align the planning and maintenance teams by ensuring all works orders are
raised and completed correctly for both planned and un planned maintenance
works
§
To
generate and maintain an acceptably high standard of maintenance works and
infrastructure development within the agricultural department
§
Managng
the preparation of contracttenders for maintenance and construction projects
and other irrigation works within the required timelines and to the required
standards
Qualification
and Experience
§
Bachelor
of Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering
§
At
least five years’ experience in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering or at a
senior supervisory or management level from a reputable organisation
§
At
least 3 years ‘experience in irrigation and pump maintenance engineering
§
Thorough
knowledge of plant preventative maintenance engineering and planning
§
Knowledge
of irrigation systems and processes
§
Analytical
engineering drawing and calculations, pipeline and pump design
§
Must
be a member of Engineering Institution of Zambia
