The National Water
Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) was established under the Water Supply
and Sanitation Act number 28 of 1997. As part of its mandate, the water
regulator is empowered under the Act to carry out physical inspections of all
organisations providing Water and Sanitation Services
(WSS) to the public. In order to fulfil this mandate, NWASCO now wishes to
engage Part Time
Inspectors based in
the following areas: Kasama x1, Kafue x1, Chingola x1, Ndola x1, Solwezi x1,
Mansa x1, and Solwezi x1, who will be certified after undergoing a training
programme to carry out the following functions:
§
They will undertake
inspection work to audit compliance by WSS providers to the WSS Act and its
subsidiary regulations, guidelines and licence conditions.
§
Follow up and
investigate complaints and verify their validity and submit a report with
recommendations.
§
Collect data on the
activities of a water provider to be used as part of the statutory report
information by NWASCO.
§
Carry out assessment
of level of service provided by a particular service provider as requested by
NWASCO.
§
Verify on the ground
compliance by WSS providers to meet targets and conditionalties given by
NWASCO.
§
Must be prepared to
stand as a witness on behalf of NWASCO in cases of non-compliance by providers
they have investigated or inspected which NWASCO decides to take to court.
Qualifications and Experience:
§
Must be Zambian with
not less than 3 years experience working in Water
§
Supply and Sanitation
sector or any other relevant experience at senior level, and who is familiar
with the water sector.
§
Preferably not less
than 25 years of age.
§
Must be in gainful
employment but available for short assignments.
§
Must have a degree or
professional certificate in Civil Engineering, Finance, Engineering,
Public/Environmental Health, Biochemistry, Business Administration, Commerce,
and Economics, Human Resource or any other equivalent qualifications.
§
Must be computer
literate
§
Must have good
communication and reporting skills
