ActionAid Zambia (AAZ) is part of

social change towards a just, equitable and sustainable world. AAZ works with marginalized
and excluded women and young people, their organizations and movements to
address the structural causes of social injustice, gender inequality and
poverty.
ActionAid Zambia has a vacancy
for an experienced and suitably qualified Zambian to fill the position of
COMMUNICATIONS AND CAMPAIGNS MANAGER
JOB PURPOSE
The holder of the position shall
be responsible for development and execution of ActionAid Zambia’s (AAZ’s)
Communications and campaigns Strategy; coordinating and managing the
development and production of communications materials for all programme
initiatives. Further, the job holder will provide leadership in developing the
campaigns and advocacy strategy, build the capacity of civil society partners
in order to strengthen and deepen their involvement in advocacy, policy
influencing and decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Communications
§
Formulation and implementation of
communication strategy, policies and procedures to provide information,
education and communication support to AAZ; Select, acquire and index
information resources for the AAZ for easy access and retrieval.
§
Ensure timely publication of AAZ
works (policy briefs, research reports) and managing stocks of available
publications.
§
Oversee and ensure timely editing
and circulation of the press statement releases and coordinate public
exhibitions.
§
Strengthen media relations to
give people living in poverty and the marginalized communities; especially
women and youth a platform to raise their concerns on rights issues;
§
Provide proactive public
relations and enhancing the corporate image of the AAZ;
§
Organize and coordinate corporate
and public relations events, press releases, media liaisons, conferences, and
press briefs on the AAZ’s programmes and activities.
§
Develop and publish documentaries
including success stories, annual reports, press releases, articles, policy papers
and news briefs in collaboration with Programmes and fundraising teams;
§
Coordinate the development of
policy briefs and strategies that inform stakeholders about the policy position
of Action Aid Zambia and partners;
§
Build capacity of staff in basic interpersonal,
public relations and communication and client- relationship management skills;
§
Support the process of systematic
collection of stories of Change and case studies by engaging partner
organizations and LRPs;
§
Liaising with ICT to ensure
maintenance and updating of information on the HIVE and website including blogs
and other social media;
§
Support internal teams in the
development of key messaging for resource mobilization and Programme
activities;
b) Campaigns
§
Develop the Country Programme
Campaigns and Advocacy strategy to ensure set objectives in the CSP are well
communicated;
§
Provide guidance in identifying
key thematic issues on which Action Aid Zambia and its partners should focus
their advocacy efforts;
§
Design and package information in
a way to influence government (national, district level) on policy and
legislation, potential donors and the general public who are keen to follow
AAZ’s work;
§
Responsible and accountable for
planning, implementation and delivery of quality campaigns and advocacy
initiatives from programmatic areas; starting from local to national and
linking to global advocacy and campaigns;
§
To support and offer solidarity
during campaign activities, working with colleagues within ActionAid Federation.
§
To support partners and staff in
drawing advocacy and campaign plans through training events and actions.
§
To deliver, monitor and report on
public campaigning and communications projects within ActionAid Zambia’s
campaign signature and brand guidelines that support the campaign strategy
working with partners at local, national and global level’
a) ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS,
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
§
A Bachelor’s degree in Social
Sciences, Communications, Public Relations, Media studies, Journalism or their
equivalent from a recognized University;
§
Postgraduate diploma in
Journalism for candidates with a non-journalism degree;
§
Have at least seven (7) years’
experience in developing and implementing Communications programmes; at
least three (3) years must have been in Communications and Campaigns in a
comparable position in likeminded organizations;
§
Excellent working knowledge of MS
Office, desktop publishing graphical designing through adobe Photoshop Suite,
Dreamweaver, freehand, illustrator, InDesign and Quark Xpress;
§
Demonstrable experience in
advocacy and campaigns on women rights; governance, resilient livelihoods,
Humanitarian, youth rights and other themes of AAZ’s work;
§
Proactive in collecting
information and developing stories of change;
§
Excellent communication skills
and ability to package information in a way that builds credibility and
influence.
§
Excellent writing skills and
ability to communicate complex policy & programme issues in simple terms;
