Position:
Livestock Assistant
Location:
Nyimba Area Programme (Local Position)
PURPOSE OF
POSITION
To engage
Communities and partners in building and transforming Livestock Pass on a
Blessing (PoB) schemes into viable livestock enterprises.
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical
Extension Services to Pass on Blessing (PoB) Clients;
§
Ensure that all
households adhere to good livestock husbandry practices (appropriate housing,
nutrition, no tethering, timely vaccinations etc.
§
Ensure Pass on
Blessing (PoB) clients adhere to MOU with the Committee.
Strengthening
Community Led Livestock Extension Delivery System;
§
Work with Camp
Veterinary/Livestock Assistants in ensuring that CLAs are abreast with
practical skills in handling livestock.
§
Assessment of
skills sets of CLAs and facilitating trainings (based on comprehensive training
need assessments).
§
Assess CLA
client ratio and recommend trainings of new CLAs where need be.
§
Ensure all
trained CLAs are rendering extension services to PoB clients in their catchment
Areas (At a fee where necessary).
Support to
Livestock Management Schemes;
§
Ensure all
schemes adhere to MOU with WVZ and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (e.g.
Meeting regularly, sharing reports, segregation of duties by subcommittees and
enforcing terms, conditions of Livestock Loans etc.).
Data Tracking,
Reporting & Monitoring;
§
Work with
Development Facilitators in the Livelihood – Sustainable Enterprise and
Economic Development (SEED) program in updating of Livestock Data Tracking
Template and Reporting (DME Function) and monitoring.
§
Ensure that all
data sets are correct and regularly updated (including managing information
flow from the client to Area Programme Office via Livestock Schemes, CDWs, and
Veterinary Assistants etc.)
§
Support DFs in
ensuring timely implementation of SLiC Project interventions with adherence to
budgets, logical Frame Work and WVZ policies.
QUALIFICATION,
COMEPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
§
Full School
Certificate with credits or better in English Language, Mathematics, Science,
Biology and any other subjects.
§
Certificate/Diploma
in Livestock Production or Veterinary Medicine from a reputable Institution
§
Experience in
managing livestock pass on schemes with a bias towards small livestock (Goats
and Chickens) added advantage.
§
Must be
computer literate
§
Competent in
Riding Motors Cycles and Holder of a driver’s license with Class ‘A’
§
Fluency in
Nsenga or Chewa will be an added advantage
§
Basic knowledge
in livestock husbandry with biased towards goats
§
Basic knowledge
in Community mobilization
§
Basic knowledge
in facilitating livestock management schemes
§
Basic Knowledge
in facilitating Livestock FFBS
